Croatia has an extraordinary natural wealth, with more than 5,000 plant species, many of which are unique and found nowhere else in the world. While this number sounds impressive, the reality is quieter and more concerning. Authentic, wild native plants are increasingly disappearing from our view, pushed aside by urbanization, invasive species, and the idea that nature must be “managed” to be valuable. Do we even know which plants truly belong to this landscape, and what their disappearance means for our future?
